Thread obtained by twisting collagen filaments purified from bovine serosa, previously treated with chromium salts. This treatment gives the thread its characteristic brown color and maintains its tensile strength in vivo by increasing the absorption period. Chromic catgut is presented in blister-type packaging in a preservative solution that helps minimize tissue drag and improve knotting.

Chromic Catgut is a braided surgical suture composed of the homopolymer of glycolic acid. It is non-antigenic, non-pyrogenic, and flexible. It is available undyed or dyed violet with D&C violet #2.

Precautions

In handling suture materials, care should be taken to avoid damage from handling. Avoid crushing or crimping damage due to application of surgical instruments such as forceps or needle holders. Adequate knot security requires the use of the accepted surgical techniques.
