Polypropylene is obtained through the extrusion of the polypropylene polymer; the thread is non-capillary, tensile-resistant, and chemically inert. Due to its non-thrombogenic properties, it is suitable for cardiac and peripheral vascular surgery. It is also preferred for use in infected or inflamed areas. The thread is pigmented blue with harmless dyes.

Polypropylene is a non-absorbable, monofilament, surgical suture composed of a strand of isotactic polypropylene polymer. The suture is provided dyed blue.

Type of Absorption

Non-absorbable

Color

Blue

Structure

Monofilament

Gauge

12/0 to 2

Sterilization

Ethylene oxide

Health Registration Number

DM0125N

Presentation

Available in predetermined lengths and number of strands, with or without surgical steel needle.
Available in boxes of 12, 24, and 36 units.

Indications

Polypropylene suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and ligation, including use in cardiovascular, neurological, and ophthalmic procedures. It can be used in infected or contaminated wounds.

Warnings
  • For single use only. DO NOT RESTERILIZE.
  • Discard remaining strands.
Precautions

In handling suture materials, care should be taken to avoid damage from handling. Avoid crushing or crimping damage due to application of surgical instruments such as forceps or needle holders. Adequate knot security requires the accepted surgical techniques.

The use of additional throws may be particularly appropriate when knotting monofilaments.
