Polypropylene is a non-absorbable, monofilament, surgical suture composed of a strand of isotactic polypropylene polymer. The suture is provided dyed blue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Indications<\/b><\/h5>\n

Polypropylene suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and ligation, including use in cardiovascular, neurological, and ophthalmic procedures. It can be used in infected or contaminated wounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Precautions<\/b><\/h5>\n

    In handling suture materials, care should be taken to avoid damage from handling. Avoid crushing or crimping damage due to application of surgical instruments such as forceps or needle holders. Adequate knot security requires the accepted surgical techniques.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Polypropylene is obtained through the extrusion of the polypropylene polymer; the thread is non-capillary, tensile-resistant, and chemically inert. Due to its non-thrombogenic properties, it is suitable for cardiac and peripheral vascular surgery. It is also preferred for use in infected or inflamed areas.
