The raw material for the production of silk is the thread from the domesticated species of the silkworm Bombyx mori from the family Bombycidae. The silk is impregnated with a physiologically harmless silicone solution, resulting in a non-capillary, water-repellent thread with a smooth surface that facilitates handling and knotting. The thread is pigmented black with harmless dyes

Black Braided Silk is a non-absorbable, braided, surgical suture of natural origin composed of an organic protein called fibroin. The protein is derived from the domesticated silkworm Bombyxmori of the family Bombycidae. The filament is processed to remove natural waxes. The suture is available in white or dyed black with a silicone coating for smooth passage through tissues and for easy handling of the product.

Indications

Black Braided Silk suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological procedures.

Warnings

For single use only. Do not resterilize. Discard remaining strands.

Precautions
In handling suture materials, care should be taken to avoid damage from handling. Avoid crushing or crimping damage due to application of surgical instruments such as forceps or needle holders. Adequate knot security requires the accepted surgical techniques.
